Breast augmentation surgery with prostheses, also known as "augmentation mammoplasty", is an aesthetic surgical procedure designed to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts by inserting breast implants, either filled with saline water or cohesive silicone gel. This procedure is commonly performed on women who wish to increase the size of their breasts for aesthetic reasons, or after loss of volume due to factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging or weight fluctuations.
Breast augmentation surgery can be combined with other aesthetic surgical procedures, such as mastopexy, also known as breast liftinf or redrapage.
