Lesion and cyst removal refers to a medical procedure in which an abnormal skin lesion or cyst is surgically removed from the skin or underlying tissue. Skin lesions that may require removal include sebaceous cysts, lipomas (clusters of subcutaneous fat), seborrheic keratoses, angiomas and other abnormal skin lesions.

In cosmetic surgery, removal of lesions or cysts may be recommended for a variety of reasons, particularly if the lesion is visible and intrusive. The technique used to remove the lesion or cyst will depend on its type, size, location and other factors. The procedure can take from a few minutes to an hour.

  • Removing a skin lesion or cyst is generally considered safe, but like any surgical procedure, it can involve certain risks and potential complications including bleeding, infection, pain and visible scarring.

  • If the lesion or cyst is visible and aesthetically distracting, its removal can improve the appearance of the skin, giving you a more even and aesthetically pleasing appearance. By removing a lesion or cyst that has caused you embarrassment or anxiety, removal can help boost your self-confidence and improve your emotional well-being.

  • If you're concerned about the appearance of a lesion on a part of your body and find it too conspicuous, or if the lesion becomes irritated by rubbing, for example, then surgical removal of the lesion is perfectly indicated.

You must be in good general health and have no uncontrolled medical conditions that could increase the risks associated with surgery.

  • Recovery after removal of lesions or cysts will depend on the technique used and the size of the lesion. In general, there may be some pain, swelling and redness around the site of the procedure, which should gradually disappear over time.

  • Depending on the lesion, there may be non-surgical alternatives, such as laser removal of certain lesions. Although we do not offer laser treatment at present time, Dr. Laungani will be able to advise and refer you during your consultation.
