Hyaluronic acid injections are a non-surgical cosmetic procedure used to treat fine lines, wrinkles and increase volume in certain areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the skin that helps maintain hydration, firmness and elasticity.
During an injection, a hyaluronic acid-based gel is injected into the skin using a fine needle or cannula. This substance works by filling in wrinkles and restoring volume to hollow areas of the face, such as the cheeks, temples, lips and facial contours. Some products are also designed to temporarily slow the signs of skin aging by providing the skin with increased hydration and thus giving it a smooth appearance and long-lasting radiance, without changing the shape or volume of the face.
The results of hyaluronic acid injections are usually visible immediately and can last from several months to over a year, depending on the type of product used and the area treated.
